Dell Dimmensions and Memory 2 Years, 3 Months ago

I have a family friend who has a Dell Dimension (model unknown) which I tried some basic DDR memory to upgrade it, and it wasn't having it at all. Now it's now old, it's a decent P4 2.4GHZ but basic memory didn't seem to work. Now from what I could tell the memory in there was same clocked speed, etc... but it'd beep the moment I put new memory in.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if they've encountered the use of ECC DDR in Dell Dimensions, or even Registered DDR. I should've looked more closely at the computer as a whole, and found out more about it, but I didn't as my initial conclusion was that the RAM was bad (it was an off-brand which had history of being DOA).

I've seen registered in Dells like that.
Have you tried entering the service tag into the website and seeing what kind of RAM they try to sell you for an upgrade? That might not work if it's too old. Aside from that you might have to just find the model number on Ebay which unfortunately isn't convenient if you have a bunch of RAM laying around.

Well the problem was that I just assumed the RAM was bad, and didn't record any of the computer information like the Model of Dimension, Service Tag, etc... so I'll just have to see if I can get ahold of the dude to get that info.
Was just wondering if anyone had experience offhand.
