I'd been playing WoW for about the last 3.5 years, as this where most of my friends/e-friends played. However I never truly liked WoW, raiding was alright, and PVP every now an again, but most of my enjoyment came from the comradery of my friends. I started EQ2, and always enjoyed it from launch, but many of my friends who went there with me left for any number of reasons, so WoW ended up filling the void.
With my recent increase in boredom on WoW coupled with the supposed hack of my account, I decided to quit WoW for good and go back to EQ2. I was somewhat worried what might have become of the game after the 3, almost 4 years I'd played it, because when I tried going back to EQ during my WoW period, EQ had changed to much for it to be a game I could jump back into. EQ2 had its changes though, some of them disappointing, but some of the spectacular (specifically Guild Halls). But with all the changes I had finally found a game I enjoyed playing again. Luckily I quickly ran into a group of Indianapolis locals where I quickly became part of the gang. I've continued to meet excellent people and it's amazing the difference players/community can make in a game, but the change in game play and the way the game is intended to be played appeals to me much greater than WoW ever did.
I just recently hit level 80 tailor (returned to the game at level 49 monk/49 tailor, but I'm still trucking along leveling my
Monk, who is currently level 73. I've missed so much content already, that I'm excited to go back and do all of it on either an alt, or mentoring a friend.
EQ2 has sparked a lot of memories from my many years of EQ, and has given me that nostalgic feel I've been looking for. At the same time it's made me crave those nostalgic experiences so much that I've considered re-opening my EQ accounts, or starting the EMU server backup, or even trying to start an Ultima Online shard.
If anyone is interested in dipping their toes into EQ2 and testing the water over there let me know, as the Invite a friend feature provides you with 300% experience as long as you're grouping with me, and being a tailor, if you like wizard or druidic classes, I'll have uber gear for every level you make!
